Pairing: Nick/Monroe
Summary: For the kinkmeme prompt, "Nick and Monroe fall asleep together and Monroe is surprised with how easy it is. He's never been a cuddler before."

He woke up slowly, with the comforting pall of sleep still hanging languidly around his limbs, a blanket warm and comfortable wrapped around him, the couch cushion underneath his head. He blinked, realizing that the warmth wasn't coming from a blanket at all, but the still somnolent body of Nick draped over his chest. The man's head rested in the crook of his neck, soft puffs of air drifting against his skin and barely-there sleep murmurs reaching his ears.

He wiggled his arm experimentally, finding it was numb from being wrapped around Nick's shoulders and holding him close.

Huh.

He glanced around, piecing together what had happened. The night before, Nick had called him up and asked him if he wanted to go hunt some beasties--Of course, he had replied sarcastically, It's not like I have anything better to do on a Sunday night--and had reluctantly parted himself from his warm house to tramp around in the damp woods to find whatever evil lurked there.

After it was all said and done--cracked ribs and some strained muscles on Nick's end, and twin slashes that had already scabbed over on his--they had returned to his house, exhausted. He had restarted the football game and pointedly ignored Nick, who collapsed on the sofa next to him.

"You can't take a hint?" Monroe grumbled.

Nick smiled softly, like he always did when Monroe was stubborn or grouchy, his eyes closed. "Just gimme'minute."

Monroe had sighed when, half an hour later, he had turned to find the Grimm awkwardly slumped sideways against the back of the couch. He resisted a full forty-five seconds before manhandling him into a more comfortable position.

He remembered turning the game on again, watching it, then... he couldn't remember how it had ended. That was no surprise; after one of Nick'at'Nite's Creature Features, as he privately called them, he would often fall asleep almost immediately after the rush of adrenaline had died down.

So, no, that wasn't surprising at all.

What was surprising was that he hadn't woke up immediately when they had changed positions, Monroe sprawled lengthwise across the couch, and Nick nestled halfway on his chest and halfway in the protective space between the cushions and Monroe's body. Normally he would have roused immediately, pushed Nick off of him and ordered him to go to sleep on the floor or go home, whichever he preferred.

But this felt kind of nice.

It was still dark outside, the dawn not yet fully awake, and he could feel the cold drifting in from under the threshold and cracks in his old house, but where he was curled around Nick, he felt warm and comfortable.

Yawning, he shifted position to let his arm regain feeling and tugged Nick into a more comfortable pose. Nick snuffled a bit, but didn't wake up. He reached up and pulled a blanket down, covering them both, and went back to sleep.

He'd deal with it in the morning.
